Artist Statement
I take walks and notice what is below my feet. I see a world of possibilities lying on the side of the road. There are gifts from nature in the form of sticks, cracks and logs. Things that have been abandoned, damaged and lost also call to me. They seem to have a history to share. Incorporating found materials in my work adds an element of unpredictability. I like the inventiveness required to transform them into pieces that test our assumptions of everyday objects.
My husband has Parkinson’s disease. Watching a jumble of appendages, twisted and writhing has give me a new perspective on what is beautiful in nature.The struggle is worth acknowledging. My work investigates the disorder and the romance of life. I aspire to create work that is both beautiful and visually surprising.
